Roy to the Rescue
It was not a magical time. Disney animation had lost its way, the theme parks were stagnating, and Michael Eisner had the legacy of Walt Disney by the throat and wouldn't let go. It took a second-generation Disney, shy, soft-spoken Roy E., whose passion was filmmaking, to beard the lion and save the kingdom.
Disney historian William Silvester's scrupulously researched new biography of Roy E. Disney spotlights Walt's unassuming nephew who cut his teeth on True-Life Adventure films and championed the cause of Disney animation at a time when the company was the target of hostile takeovers, internal apathy, and widespread disdain for the policies of Disney CEO Michael Eisner. The man who found it difficult to speak up at board meetings became the company's unlikely savior.
Silvester spins an engaging tale of Roy E. Disney's life
- Roy's childhood memories of Walt, how he once derailed Walt's backyard train, and learning to cope with his uncle's moods
- Roy's modest beginnings at the Disney Studio, avoiding charges of nepotism, and his coming of age with True-Life Adventures
- Roy's slow rise in the company, and an insider's look at the "Walt vs Roy (senior)" factional infighting after Walt's death
- Roy's battles with Michael Eisner, culminating in his resignation from the board and the "Save Disney" campaign
- Roy's victory over Eisner, his triumphant return to the Disney Company, and his final years as a filmmaker

I always enjoy reading true stories that balance myth and truth when telling the inside conflicts of the Disney dynasty, This book delivers on telling the entire story, not just repeated hype and pumped out PR. I like knowing the Disney family is human and has conflicts just like any other family. I wish someone would write a book about the current Disney clan and what happened to the family. Enjoy this very enjoyable book and learn something new.Product details

Saving Disney The Roy E Disney Story edition by William Silvester Bob McLain Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
This is the mostly untold and unknown story about how Roy E. Disney (son of Roy Oliver Disney, Walt's brother and co-founder of Disneyland, etc) saved the Disney corp. He is perhaps best known for organizing the removal of two top Disney executives- first, Ron Miller in 1984, and then Michael Eisner in 2005.
Roy started out by making some of Disneys best loved nature films
While investors (who definitely didn't have the best interests of Disney) were trying hostile takeovers of Disney with the intention of dismantling the company and selling off its assets, Roy organized a consortium of "white knight" investors to fight off the takeover attempts which led to Eisner and Wells being brought on. Roy soon returned to the company as vice-chairman of the board of directors and chairman of the animation department, later named Walt Disney Feature Animation.
This department was responsible for such films as The Lion king, which turned Disney around.
DisneyWar by James B. Stewart covers part of this era too. But this lovely book goes into great depth about Roy's family history and life, which has been virtually unknown.
Excellent story of Roy
