Using the experiences and perspective of a skilled Life Coach, Marriage Counselor, and Psychotherapist and calling on an array of academic research, philosophy, literature, pop-culture, real-life stories and do-it-yourself exercises, MONEY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS is the only book of it's kind to explore the relationship between money and happiness in this particular way. Its thesis (set out in the first two sections called Money and You and Money and Happiness) is that, while money can't buy happiness, it can support the foundations of a happy life if understood and used wisely. Misunderstood and used poorly, money can seriously undermine happiness. The third section of the book, Two Pillars of Life Satisfaction, makes the case that life satisfaction comes from living a life based on non-monetary /non-materialistic values, and that the two most important of these are love and meaningful work. This book empowers us to reclaim our lives and feel rich in ways that truly last and matter

Money and the Pursuit of Happiness In Good Times And Bad PhD Richard Trachtman 9781452812847 Books Reviews
The age old saying that money doesn't create happiness is well articulated in this book. It adds new insight and concrete examples of people's attitude toward money and how it affects their relationships. Its the type of book one can read, think a bit, pick up again and read more. It also reveals insights about the author which I found interesting. All in all and interesting and at times challenging read. By Peter Breyer
Well written. Easy-to-understand. What I liked most were the personal touches. Richard Trachtman isn't afraid to share his life and his story. As a poet, I also enjoyed his poem about his dad at the very beginning of the book. In these hard ecomonic times, it's great to read a book about money management that is hopeful and looks beyond the dollar signs. My favorite chapters had to do with Love and Work (The Two Pillars of Life Satisfaction). Worth buying--and reading more than once!
Dr. Trachtman's book is both an ageless and timely edition to the world of self help books available. His wit and wisdom in this ever important arena is in a easily read format with many great real life examples that most people will be able to relate to. Except for the Dalai Lama, I think everyone would benefit from this realistic look at the relationship between money and happiness. I especially recommend giving this book as required reading to college age students and all young adults. I have three young adult sons whom will benefit from reading this if I can only put it in text message form!!
Three centuries after the poet warned us, Dr. Richard Trachtman proves we're still wasting our powers by getting and spending. This easy-to-read down-to-earth volume is a must for all materialistic humans (and that's most of us) who think money provides the only route to happiness.
Dr. Trachtman uses case histories he's amassed as a psychotherapist to show how our obsession with money as an end in itself creates severe psychological and sociological problems. And he does it without resorting to psycho-babble.
He also provides sound advice on how to get on the right track to true happiness.
You owe it to yourself--and to all those important to you--to add this one to your library.
Money can make or break a relationship. In his book, "Money and the Pursuit of Happiness", Dr. Richard Trachtman shares case studies amassed from years of psychotherapeutic practice with clients obsessed with money. This is a must read for those interested in new insights and concrete examples of how people's attitude toward money impacts interpersonal relationships.
Rich with case studies, this book provides important insight into the issue of money and relationships. He shows how it's the frequent source of conflict and gives practical advice on how we can deal with this important issue.
Dr. Trachtman has written a splendid book about the relationship between money and happiness.
